![]() I enjoy utility and versatility, so alchemist has been a lot of fun for me. Some of the fun alchemical tools (like sovereign glue, a level 7 item) are in the higher levels.Īfter playing an alchemist for a while, there's an exciting amount of options and things you can do with alchemy. They lose a lot of their uses when they are 5 levels below your level.Īlchemical Poisons have save DC's that depend on the level of the poison, so being 5 levels below your level makes them very easy for enemies to resist. Quicksilver and Drakeheart mutagens (and other mutagens and elixirs) provide bonuses that are usually +1 or more above what your armor runes or magical items of your level can provide. A full alchemist can have elixirs that heal for 3d6+6 at level 5 and 5d6+12 at level 9, not to mention the later levels. If you want to use elixirs of life for healing, you need to wait until level 10 with the archetype to get elixirs that heal more than just 1d6. Plus a lot of really fun alchemical items are in the higher levels. Taking it as an archetype results in alchemical items that end up 5 levels below your level, which makes a lot of alchemical items not very useful for their intended purposes. ![]() I'm a big fan of the Alchemist as a primary class when making such a decision, especially if you value versatility.
